The warnings are plentiful and
blunt on the third Sunday in Lent.
Lent is a season of repentance.
Cut it out or get cut down! The
warnings are accompanied by
God's invitation to attentiveness:
"Incline your ear, and come to
me; listen, so that you may live."
The landowner's ultimatum is
forestalled by the gardener's
readiness to till the ground one
more year. That is good news for
all of us. Thanks be to God!

Scripture Summary
"When we think about the value of worship for us as a Christian community,
we realize it is one of our best assets for empowering our lives in the world
outside of the church.  That one little hour spent in worship can recharge our
spiritual batteries for the demands of the week ahead.  We encourage
everyone to come and let the presence of God in worship be a regular part of
our week."

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and
I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn
from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you
will find rest for your souls. ~Matthew 11:28-29
